Who will I help with a gift to Chicago Commons?

By partnering with Chicago Commons, you will directly help over 3,000 individuals in West Humboldt Park, New City (Back of the Yards), Pilsen and Englewood overcome the obstacles of poverty, discrimination and isolation.  Your gift will support four early childhood centers, two youth and teen centers, our Adult Education Training Center, our Adult Day Care Center, our huge senior home care program and our community building efforts.

In FY2009 (July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009) our donor partners helped 3,162 individuals, plus their families and communities, with a gift to Chicago Commons:

  • 843 pre-school children prepared for elementary school through daily care and education at our four child development centers.
  • 231 students (5th through 12th grade) developed a passion for learning through daily educational and recreational after-school and summer activities.
  • 460 students participated in school-based workshops promoting health and positive life skills.
  • 43 high school juniors and seniors interned with mentors at local community businesses, developing life goals and their individual pathways to college through Chicago Commons R.I.S.E.
  • 16 of 17 R.I.S.E. high school seniors from FY2009 are currently attending college.
  • 213 adults advanced their education through courses including GED preparation, basic education, English as a Second Language (ESL), and computer training.
  • 300 community residents used our open computer lab.
  • 23 of 32 job seekers became gainfully employed.
  • 107 disabled adults and seniors participated daily at Chicago Commons Adult Day Care Center, receiving healthy meals, nurse checks, and a safe home away from home while their family caregivers were at work.
  • 1008 seniors and their families received a total of 469,543 home visits to provide support, discuss challenges and bring useful resources.
  • 950 parents attended forums, meetings and workshops to engage in discussion about their children’s education and the nature of quality education.  Parents of each child enrolled also attended at least one parent/teacher conference.
  • 5 primary neighborhood coalitions received funding, leadership and support from Chicago Commons.  Chicago Commons is also currently engaged in eight community and civic activities:  2010 Census Count Me In campaign, Community Garden Project, Local Farmers Market, NHS-Foreclosure outreach, NCP Safety Committee Safe Passage Initiative.
