Are you looking for help learning English (ESL), increasing your job skills, preparing for the GED exam, or mastering basic computer skills?

Chicago Commons’ Adult Education program can help you make the transition from un- or under-employment to steady work that provides a living wage.

Our Adult Education program offers:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) - If you are looking to strengthen your English proficiency
  • Adult Basic Education (ABE) - For those reading below the ninth grade level seeking to increase skills
  • Adult Secondary Education (ASE) - For those aiming to take the GED exam (high school diploma equivalent) and increase your reading skills
  • Vocational Education – Basic computer training and IC³ (The Internet and Computing Core Certification) if you are seeking to increase your computer skills for job training
  • Employment Search and Transition Jobs - Helping you find the right job for you

These courses are delivered in seven-week cycles with tests administered before and after each cycle to measure your progress. This allows you to focus directly on the individual curriculum areas where you need the most improvement.

Chicago Commons also partners with several local agencies to provide even more Adult Education services that can help further the process to building your well-being, such as:

  • Local hiring through our partnership with B.E.E.P., which establishes agreements with developers to hire Humboldt Park residents.
  • Career exploration, job search and self-directed basic computer training through our partnerships with Illinois workNet and Lumity.
  • Counseling, transitional employment and job readiness training for ex-offenders through our partnership with the Humboldt Park Reentry Initiative.
