Do you need daycare, Head Start full-day preschool or an after school program for your child?

Chicago Commons' Child Development Program offers you a very special day care or preschool opportunity for your child inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach to early learning. This approach provides your child with rich learning experiences and support programs to strengthen your family.

How old is your child?

  • 8 weeks to 3 years old – We offer full day-care at Nia Family Center in West Humboldt Park, and Paulo Freire Family Center in New City (Back of the Yards)
  • 24 months to 3 years old – We also offer a full-day toddler program at Taylor Center for New Experiences in West Humboldt Park, Paulo Freire Family Center in New City (Back-of-the Yards) and Guadalupano Family Center in Pilsen.
  • 3 years to 5 years old – We offer full- or half-day Head Start preschool programs at Nia Family Center and Taylor Center for New Experiences in West Humboldt Park, Paulo Freire Family Center in New City (Back of the Yards), and Guadalupano Family Center in Pilsen.
  • 5 years to 12 years old – We offer after school and summer programs at Paulo Freire Family Center in New City (Back of the Yards) and Guadalupano Family Center in Pilsen.

What are the hours for the centers?

Chicago Commons’ centers are open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children with disabilities are welcome.

How much does it cost for my child to attend?

Our programs are subsidized. You must meet the family size and income requirements and other requirements in order for your child to qualify for a subsidized opening. Additional space is available for families on a private pay scale.

How do I enroll my child in a Commons’ early childhood program?

To enroll your child, call the center of your choice to make an appointment. If you need directions to the center, go to our Locations page. For more information, call (773) 722-0115. What documents must I bring with me when I enroll my child?

The following documents are required when you come to the center to enroll your child:

  • Birth Certificate - for the child or children you are enrolling
    (go to Cook County Vital Record's website for information on obtaining a birth certificate)
  • Social Security Card - for all family members
    (or birth certificate only if social security card is unavailable)
  • Proof of Income - for previous 30 days
  • Medical Card - if you have it
  • Physical Exam - including hearing, vision, TB results & blood work for the child or children
    you are enrolling
  • Dental Exam - for the child or children you are enrolling

Can I put my child on a waiting list?

Yes, you can, provided you meet the family size and income requirements mentioned above. Download our Waiting List Form or Waiting List Form Spanish and mail to:
