Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Our Commitment

Chicago Commons is committed to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Since 1894, Chicago Commons has been assisting children, families, and seniors in underserved communities to live richer, more fulfilling lives. This has been true since we opened one of Chicago’s first kindergartens in the 1890s to today, where we serve over 4,000 individuals each year.

Our commitment to the communities we serve has always meant that we are dedicated to being a diverse, equitable and inclusive work environment. We want individuals who work at Chicago Commons to know that they are in a place that respects and values who they are, regardless of age, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, education, national origin, and more.

Chicago Commons actively works to create equity in the workplace in alignment with our mission of creating opportunities for individuals to thrive. Our goal is to cultivate a workplace that is as welcoming and supportive as the environment we create for those we serve.

Engaging our Employees in DEI Culture

As our communities, country and world grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, grave injustices were brought to light. We learned more about persisting issues related to systemic racism and discrimination. We also saw firsthand in the communities we serve the profound impact of disparities in health outcomes and access to housing, transportation, education, and employment.

In recognition of this reality, Chicago Commons is creating new ways to engage employees in DEI practices.
