Chicago Commons’ Family Hub program delivers a holistic network of support to our families, integrating trauma-informed parent workshops like Chicago Parent Program, Circle of Security, and Strengthening Family Coping Resources (SFCR) to foster social-emotional growth, skill-building, and community belonging.
In 2024, a total of 688 parents attended our support groups, and 136 parents were placed in full-time jobs. Additionally, 73 parents participated in small business development workshops and 95% of participants completed two to three self-set goals centered on mental health, financial, employment, or education progress. These interventions, grounded in leading research, are reinforced by national evidence: programs like Circle of Security and SFCR have demonstrated measurable gains in secure parent-child attachment, emotional regulation, and caregiver resilience, outcomes that are especially effective for families facing systemic barriers or trauma-related stress.
The Family Hub’s multifaceted approach—spanning group interventions, career coaching, leadership training, and robust individualized counseling—has resulted in tangible community impact. Participants reported decreased symptoms of depression, PTSD, and anxiety after receiving counseling services, and the majority of families engaged with the Hub experienced increased financial stability and higher rates of educational advancement.
The program’s design, integrating in-person and virtual supports, connects parents not only with professional resources but also with practical peer advice, reducing isolation and empowering families to thrive. By embedding trauma-informed practices alongside leadership development and economic mobility pathways, Family Hub is recognized by the Administration for Children and Families Research Action as a model for two-generation work, illustrating how strategic, data-driven programming can uplift entire family systems across generations.
