YOUR PATHWAY TO A NEW CAREER

Pathways for Parents helps you begin your career in early childhood development, either as an Early Childhood Teacher or as a Family Worker in social services settings. Take the first steps toward your new career by taking two college courses at Chicago Commons or online at home through our partnership with City Colleges of Chicago.

Dinner • Childcare • Technology • Personalized Education Programs • Employment Coaching • Tutoring • Other Support Services

Scholarships and assistance completing applications are available.

Who’s Eligible?

    • Parents, Friends, and Chicago Community Members
    • Young parents and DACA/Non-DACA recipients
    • Individuals who speak English as a second language
  • High school seniors or students completing their GED

Your pathway to becoming a preschool teacher

Pathways for Parents can help you begin a career in Early Childhood Education.

  • Start a career as a teacher or teacher’s assistant within an early learning setting
  • Complete a Basic Certificate, Advanced Certificate, or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Learn with a cohort of other parents and people in the community
  • Continue on to a Bachelor’s Degree and more
  • Two college courses provided in your own community, at Chicago Commons, or online at home
  • Scholarship funding and assistance completing applications available

After two semesters, you can complete the rest of the program at Malcolm X College.

Pathways for Parents helps you begin a career in social services as a family worker within an Early Childhood Development setting.

  • Complete a Basic Certificate, Advanced Certificate, or Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Human Development Family Studies
  • Learn with a cohort of your peers
  • Continue on to a Bachelor’s Degree and more
  • Two college courses provided in your own community, at Chicago Commons, or online at home
  • Scholarship funding and assistance completing applications available

After two semesters, you can complete the rest of the program at Truman College.
