September is a special month as we join the nation in honoring National Senior Center Month. This year’s theme is “Discover Yours” which encourages older adults to discover their unique interests, talents, and aspirations. It conveys a sense of exploration, self-discovery, and individuality. Our Senior Services are an integral part of Chicago Commons, providing a welcoming and vibrant space for our seniors and adults with disabilities to connect, engage, and thrive.

Socialization has been shown to be one of the most effective ways for seniors to improve their mental health. According to the American Public Health Association, socialization improves mood, cognition, memory recall, and is associated with healthy behaviors, including exercise. Senior Services play a vital role in fostering socialization among our elderly community members. By creating an environment where older adults can join together, we can facilitate the discovery of hobbies and passions and meaningful social connections.

Through our programs and activities, we encourage seniors to build friendships, share experiences, and support each other. As we celebrate National Senior Center Month, we take pride in being a place where seniors can not only enhance their mental and physical well-being but also celebrate their individuality and contribute to a vibrant and connected community.
