Head Start Conference Tour at Nia Family Center

Chicago Commons Nia Family Center in West Humboldt Park welcomed visitors from across the country who are part of the Region 5 Head Start Association Conference, which took place at the Hyatt Regency Downtown Chicago from October 3-7, 2022.

Our President and CEO, Edgar Ramirez, and Chief of Staff, Nyla Diab, were excited to welcome Administration for Children and Families (ACF) Deputy Director Tala Hooban and Heather Wanderski and a group of visiting Head Start educators. In partnership with IFF (CDFI), we shared how small, moderate, and large investments can infuse child-directed Reggio Emilia pedagogy into classrooms and other learning spaces.

Visitors were able to see how Chicago Commons uses nature, furniture placement, and natural light to create opportunities for children to explore their curiosities and establish a lifelong love for learning. We shared how resources such as volunteerism, philanthropy and community engagement have made a significant impact on our families and the surrounding Humboldt Park community.
